Lower quality usually means a smaller JPEG or WebP. PNG is lossless, so this slider does not reduce PNG quality.
The longest side is limited to the selected size. Small images are not enlarged.
JPEG replaces transparent areas with white. WebP often offers a good balance of quality and file size.

Animated GIF files are processed as a still image (first frame). Images larger than 40 megapixels are rejected to avoid excessive memory use.

Your image is processed inside your browser and is not uploaded to PixelNest servers. Very large files can use significant memory; for best results, use a current browser and keep the tab open while processing.

How image compression works

This tool draws a local copy of your image to a browser canvas, applies the selected dimensions, and exports a new file in the chosen format. Your original file is not modified.

Which settings should I use?

For website photos, try WebP at 75–85% quality and resize to the display dimensions you actually need. For screenshots, line art, and images with transparency, PNG may preserve crisp edges, although the file can be larger. Keep the original dimensions when you do not need to reduce pixel size.

Does compression always reduce file size?

No. Results depend on the source image, output format, quality, and dimensions. The tool reports the actual output size so you can compare before downloading.
